This home is due for an upgrade! Lately, the homeowners have been noticing the amount of free space dwindling - thanks to all the toys strewn about, of course. Because of the increasing clutter, the need to a dedicated work space has become more and more obvious. That is when their attention turned to the high ceiling looming above their living room.
Our expert design team has presented the homeowners with two options:
Option #1 - New Enclosed Office & New Loft
The first option is to build a new loft over the high ceiling space, and to repurpose the existing open loft into a new enclosed office. Some people prefer their office open, but there's something to be said for an enclosed room. It offers a lot more quiet and privacy - crucial for some to get their work done properly and in a timely manner!
Their existing open-to-below will be converted into a new loft. Whether it'll serve as a play area or a media center, the office being enclosed allows for both rooms to co-exist next to each other.
Option #2 - New Enclosed Office over Open-to-Below / Retain Existing Loft
Think of the second option as a mirror to the first. The existing loft will remain as such, while the open-to-below space is dedicated to the new enclosed office.

Anybody who has perused our San Diego gallery probably recognizes this house, as it is the same model we recently worked on! A giant open-to-below space above the dining and entrance areas affords a lot of flexibility when it comes to possible room configurations.
These homeowners have expressed a desire for a new enclosed bonus room, which could also function as a home office space. In addition to that, the stairs are going to be renovated to provide a more efficient and aesthetically pleasing access to the new space.
The changes don't stop there. This is a combo - not only is this home receiving a high ceiling conversion, but we're also remodeling their first floor space. There's an existing wall that separates the living room and kitchen from the dining room and entrance area. By removing that separating layer, the entirety of the first floor will feel much more unified and lively.
The TruPlans architectural design team is hard at work sketching up these proposed changes. We will showcase their 3D designs once available. Stay tuned for more!
