High Ceiling Conversion
Room Additions in Moreno Valley, California
Riverside County
Need more space in your Moreno Valley Home?
If you're considering a room addition or remodeling project, you may not have to look outside your home to find the space you want. A high ceiling, open-to-below living room, or tall entryway can sometimes provide an opportunity to create new usable space within the existing footprint of your home. A high ceiling conversion transforms part of that unused vertical space into a new room or loft. Depending on the home's layout and existing structure, that could mean adding a bedroom, creating an open loft, building a home office, designing a bonus room, or developing a combination of open and enclosed spaces. Instead of expanding outward, a loft addition works upward using space that was already part of the home's volume. Of course, every home is different. The amount of space available, existing framing, ceiling height, roof configuration, windows, stairs, and other structural and architectural conditions all need to be considered before determining what can actually be built. Some homes may be better suited for a fully enclosed room, while others may work well with an open loft or a combination of both.
That's where we come in. For more than 23 years, we have been helping homes across California with their high ceiling conversions and inside room additions, bringing architectural planning, structural engineering, 3D design, and permitting together under one process.
We start by evaluating your existing home and understanding what you want to accomplish, then develop a design around the space you already have. You don't need to know exactly what your high ceiling should become before you contact us. If you've been wondering whether the open space above your living room, dining room, or entryway could become something useful, we'll help you explore what may be possible.

A Moreno Valley High Ceiling Conversion
Enclosed Mezzanine Addition - Upper Media & Open Office Area
This was a unique loft addition for sure. The new space was not totally filled in. The high ceilings over the entry and living room remain. The ceiling over the dining room was built over and combined with the hallway space to create an enclosed sitting area for television and a custom desk unit. The old stair railings were upgraded to wrought iron.

Corona: A New Bedroom Above the Living Room
This Corona project takes a different approach. The existing high ceiling above the living room is being explored as a location for a new bedroom. The video below shows the existing space alongside 3D design concepts, giving you a look at how the proposed bedroom can be planned within the home's existing volume before construction begins.

Riverside: An Open Loft Above the Living Room
In this Riverside project, the high ceiling above the living room was converted into an open loft to be used as a kids' playroom. Rather than enclosing the new space, the design maintains an open visual connection between the loft and the living room below. It's an example of how a high-ceiling conversion can add usable space while still preserving the feeling of openness that made the original room special.

Our Process (Simplified): From Your Existing Space to a Buildable Loft
Every TruLoft project starts with the home you already have. Our process is designed to take you from the initial idea through design, engineering, permitting, and construction.
1. Free Online Evaluation
We start with a Zoom evaluation with our evaluator, Chris. You'll have the opportunity to discuss what you'd like to create, the existing space in your home, and whether a high ceiling conversion may be feasible.
2. Custom Project Proposal
Following the evaluation, we prepare a proposal based on your particular project and the planning services it requires. Once you're ready to move forward, the project officially gets underway.
3. Measure & Scan Your Home
Our team visits the property to measure the existing conditions. Detailed measurements and scanning give our designers the accurate information they need to begin developing the plans.
4. Design & Planning
Our architectural team develops floor plans, layout options, and design concepts based on your goals and the existing home. If your property requires HOA approval, we also coordinate the applicable submission as part of the process.
5. Design Review & Revisions
Once the initial design is developed, we review it with you. This gives you an opportunity to discuss the layout, ask questions, and make adjustments before the plans are finalized.
6. 3D Visualization
See the proposed addition before construction begins. Our 3D visualizations help you understand how the new space will look and how it will connect with the rooms that already exist.
7. Architectural Plans & Permits
After the design is finalized, we prepare the architectural and structural plans and coordinate the applicable approval and permitting process.
8. Ready for Construction
Once the necessary permits and approvals are in place, the project can move into construction. Depending on the project, some TruLoft construction projects can be completed in approximately 2–4 weeks, although actual construction time varies based on the scope and conditions of each home.

Why High Ceiling Conversions Require Specialized Planning
A traditional room addition usually begins by extending the home beyond its existing walls. A high-ceiling conversion starts from the opposite direction: you're creating new structure inside a space that was originally designed to remain open. That changes the planning challenge. A new floor, walls, stairs, railings, and other components all have to be integrated with the structure that's already there. At the same time, the design needs to consider what happens below the new addition and how the new space will connect with the rest of the house. This is why the architectural and structural sides of the project need to be considered together from the beginning. At TruLoft, we specialize in these inside additions and high ceiling conversions, developing the architectural layout alongside the structural requirements. Rather than simply filling an open area, the objective is to create additional space that feels intentional, functions well, and works naturally with the home that already exists.
