For this home in Beaumont, California an existing open loft is being converted into a new, much needed, bedroom space with a reach-in closet and by-pass sliding doors. We will also be designing a new open loft addition within the high 17 foot ceiling over the living room. In addition to this we will also be presenting an option to convert the high ceiling over the entryway into a new second floor laundry room and converting the old laundry room next to the kitchen into a new walk-in pantry.
 
Since the original first floor ceiling in the home is 8 feet high, the homeowner is opting to add two structural coffer (tray) ceilings over the living room and entry to make the ceiling height 4-6 inches higher in the center of each space. This will really help make up for the traded high ceiling for new functional living space. Often times homeowners don't like the idea of losing their high ceilings, but when space is needed it is one of the most cost-efficient ways to add space quickly and affordably.
 
All-in-all this should prove to be both beautiful and super functional. Many homeowners ask us to make space for moving the laundry room from the first floor to the second floor. With an existing bathroom just on the other side of the wall where the new laundry room is being proposed should make this a highly cost effective new room addition design.
