This Riverside, CA home underwent a massive remodel transformation! That high ceiling space? Replaced with a whole new open loft.
The toys scattered around the new open loft tells it all - this family really needed the additional space. A high ceiling conversion allowed for this possibility, all without the hassle of moving and getting acquainted with a new neighborhood. The downstairs also shows much improvement. The new ceiling acts as a new reflective surface - and in tandem with the new light fixtures - allows for natural light to illuminate the downstairs much more effectively. We converted that vacant, wasted space floating above the living room into something much more functional. This open loft serves as a play area for the family, freeing up valuable space in other areas of the home! The downstairs features a new, normalized ceiling. This results in a massive improvement in the lighting and acoustics department. Contrary to popular belief, adding a new ceiling in a pre-existing high ceiling space does NOT make the room go dark. By adding a reflective space for natural light to bounce off of, as well as adding embedded light fixtures, this makes the remodeled downstairs area MUCH easier to light adequately. As mentioned before, the acoustics are improved as well. That same new surface area that helps improve lighting also prevents the room from sounding like a cathedral. We enjoy the extra space whenever our owners add a new room. We always find it is a another space we dogs can retreat to for some peace and quiet. At TRULOFT we turn high ceilings into new rooms for people too.
We have new 3D design images for our latest project in Trabuco Canyon, CA!
We are converting their existing high ceiling into a new enclosed office. It's not just any office - this one sports window walls, offering a fancy layer of transparency. The space below will also undergo a dramatic transformation. The living room will have a new normalized ceiling. The result will be a vast improvement on the ambient lighting and acoustics. Sacramento Area Watch for the design imagery and interior design suggestions for this new room addition remodel being prepared in Rancho Cordova design build project. A very tall ceiling starts to speak into the ears of a homeowner "convert me" when the space in the home seems to be diminishing with time. This is not what really happens, but the space seems to dwarf as time goes on and especially if kids are growing up and want more of their own space. Sometimes families will find it necessary to welcome an aging parent back home and need the space. Either way, these high cathedral ceilings like those found in Rancho Cordova CA are ideal for an efficient room addition contractor. What you see above is what is in this homes near future -- a large-scale remodel to the downstairs area. The existing courtyard is to be filled in, providing an immense amount of new livable space. You see the wall with the mirror? There used to be another wall between that and the kitchen counter. The kitchen went from claustrophobia to feeling airy and free! Those windows and sliding doors seem pretty tall and grand, right? That is because we are removing the existing clerestory windows. The result is astounding -- increased function and natural light all-around! We're still not done yet! This home is currently single story -- we're changing that, adding an open loft above. The wall openings and glass railing allow you to overlook the open-to-below area. In addition, this open loft will come with a fancy, new bathroom.
This project is currently in the final stages of the design phase, with construction commencing very soon. When I, the Loft Dog, first started estimating and designing loft additions I thought maybe we'd be busy with this unique type of room addition for about ten years. I kinda thought the market would get saturated and that we would have filled in most of the homes by 2014. Boy was I wrong. It really does not cease to amaze me as to how many homes still have yet to be converted. Here's a new one that we have designed for our TruAdditions contracting partner. An open loft room under the vaulted ceiling space. I'm posting two images today, one is a virtual before shot and the other is the virtual after shot. These are easily produced from the same camera angle because we shoot the graphic in CAD (computer aided design) program/app. Check out the virtual before and after pics here.
