We're about to start another remodeling project in the heart of Laguna Niguel CA on Charmony. We'll converting the high vaulted ceiling that slopes down low on one side to a new two-story bedroom, bathroom and open loft addition. We started out with a loft addition design, but that did not yield enough square footage for the homeowner's needs and the decision was made to raise the whole roof and maximize the living space being added. TRUADDITIONS is the builder and TRUPLANS with the TRULOFT Design team created the architectural and structural plans.

High Ceiling Conversion

Some very exciting news for the Laguna Niguel community! 

Construction is about to commence for this home. We are set to convert their vaulted high ceiling space into two full-height rooms! This is quite a big undertaking, as this entails a major roof uplift to achieve, but the amount of space gained in this home will be invaluable!

So what rooms are the homeowners gaining? 

#1 - New Full-Height Bonus Room

First order of business is the new bonus room. This will serve as both a cozy lounging area for the family to watch movies in, as well as a play area for the kids. 

The initial design retained the vaulted ceiling line. Not only would this have significantly reduced the amount of space this bonus room would have provided, but the other room would not have even been possible. Speaking of which...

#2 - New Full-Height Bedroom

Next up is the new bedroom - once again a full-height addition. Without raising the roof, this room would not have been possible to build, which is why the homeowners ultimately opted for the roof modification. You know it's a real bedroom when it also has a closet and bathroom as well!

The real star of the show. Thanks to our expert design team, they have crafted a vision that the homeowners can't wait to be brought to reality. Growing families are our primary clients, and being able to gain another bedroom without having to move is of extreme benefit to them! Despite the ceiling space, this bedroom will be fully functional - closet, storage, and all!

There is a whole new bedroom being fitted into this vaulted ceiling space that wraps around the existing stairwell. Achieved without reframing the stairs by meeting building code requirements and some talented engineering at the step down area that provides the minimum ceiling heights needed for the new upper walkway.

​This is a high ceiling conversion design for a remodeling project in Oceanside California about to get started in the construction phase. This interior design shows the high cathedral ceiling becoming not only a new bedroom addition with a walk-in closet, but a new on suite bathroom addition as well as a new second floor laundry room. 

All-in-all it's a lot of new square footage that is being added. The opportunity to gain this valuable space was obvious with the extreme high ceiling height being normalized over the living room and affording a normal second floor addition in place of the empty space above.
